My son, Keith, was born on August 20, 1998. He was 16 weeks early. He died 37 days later on September 26. I created these pages to tell his story and to help parents of preemies. After Keith was born I searched the internet for information on premature infants. I found quite a lot. The best of which I have created links to. I, also, found many pages dedicated to preemies who had beaten the odds and survived. These pages gave me hope. My story is not so happy. This is not a fun or comfortable subject. But, I think it is important for preemie parents to see this. I never for a minute believed my child could die. I wish I could have prepared myself for the worst. In this web site, you will find information about what premature babies are like. I have described the equipment and machines you will find in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), as well as, the doctors, nurses and specialists that will care for your baby. I have included some tips for handling the stress of the NICU. I have written an account of Keith's life and death. For his birth announcement I made a newsletter that I intended to update every month to chronicle his growth and developement. Please, visit his photo gallery and see what one micropreemie looked like. |
