Breastfeeding in Public - It's not about a woman's right to breastfeed.  It's about a child's right to eat.
Breastfeeding in Public Breastfeeding in Public

Am I nursing my son in either photo or am I just holding him?  It's hard to tell, isn't it?  That's what breastfeeding in public looks like.  Most of the time, you can't even tell that it's happening.

But, if you look really close, you can see some of the skin on my breast.
Oh, no! SKIN! Why is this skin different than the skin on the arm right next to it?

For a few seconds, while my baby is latching on or off, my nipple might be exposed.  Otherwise, only a few square inches of skin is showing.  What is so offensive about that?  Why is a breast that is being used for what it is, a mammary gland, disgusting?

A little skin or a lot of skin.  It is just a baby eating.

To those that are offended by this, if you see more of a woman's breast than you want to, please, just look away.  Don't scowl at her.  Don't complain to the manager.  Don't tell her to cover up or to take it to the bathroom.  She isn't trying to make you uncomfortable.  She is just trying to nourish her baby.  Just look away.

My husband finds looking at my full lips to be sexy and so on. This does not mean I can't eat with my mouth or that eating in public is a sexual act. My husband may or may not find it sexy to watch me eat (I've never asked) but if a stranger finds it sexy to watch me eat in a public place he should at least have the decency to keep it to himself because when I eat, it's about nourishing my body not about the sexual gratification of someone watching and there is no one who would question that.

To me breastfeeding is/should be like that. Breasts, like lips can be sexy and sexual in a healthy way but they also have other functions that are not sexual. I want to live in a culture that knows the difference and sees my baby eating as no more sexual than myself eating.
