Musings on my beliefs on parenting and health. Fertility, Pregnancy and Childbirth Circumcision Breastfeeding and Nutrition Attachment Parenting, Positive Parenting and Gentle Discipline Vaccines Homeschooling and Unschooling Breastfeeding in Public - It's not about a woman's right to breastfeed. It's about a child's right to eat.
Am I nursing my son in either photo or am I just holding him? It's hard to tell, isn't it? That's what breastfeeding in public looks like. Most of the time, you can't even tell that it's happening. But, if you look really close, you can see some of the skin on my breast.
For a few seconds, while my baby is latching on or off, my nipple might be exposed. Otherwise, only a few square inches of skin is showing. What is so offensive about that? Why is a breast that is being used for what it is, a mammary gland, disgusting?
A little skin or a lot of skin. It is just a baby eating. To those that are offended by this, if you see more of a woman's breast than you want to, please, just look away. Don't scowl at her. Don't complain to the manager. Don't tell her to cover up or to take it to the bathroom. She isn't trying to make you uncomfortable. She is just trying to nourish her baby. Just look away.
